When recruiting a technical product manager, a deep understanding of the technologies that underpin the product is key. The candidate should demonstrate the engineering expertise to work effectively with development teams and translate technical needs into product strategies.
It is important that the technical product manager has experience in leading the full product lifecycle, from concept to launch. The candidate should be able to identify market opportunities, define product requirements and monitor product development.
The candidate should demonstrate project management skills, including planning, anticipating risks, prioritising and managing resources. Knowledge of Agile, Scrum or Kanban methodologies is highly desirable.
The technical product manager must be proficient in data analysis and the use of analytical tools such as Google Analytics, Tableau or SQL. The ability to analyse product metrics and make decisions based on them is crucial.
Communication and interpersonal skills are essential as the role requires constant collaboration with technical, marketing, sales teams and direct communication with customers and stakeholders.
The candidate should have an understanding of UX/UI design principles to ensure that the product is not only technically advanced, but also intuitive and user-friendly. Working with design teams to optimise user interfaces is important.
