When recruiting a cloud architect, a deep understanding of cloud architecture, including the design and implementation of public, private and hybrid cloud solutions, is key. The candidate should demonstrate experience working with major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
It is important that the cloud architect has a proficient knowledge of cloud services, such as IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and is able to leverage these technologies to improve the efficiency, scalability and security of the IT infrastructure. The candidate should also understand best practices related to cloud migration and cloud management.
The candidate should have experience automating and orchestrating cloud resources using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, and Docker, which are key to effectively managing complex cloud environments.
Security is a key component of any cloud environment. A cloud architect should be familiar with securing data and applications in the cloud, including encryption techniques, identity and access management, and network security configuration.
The ability to analyse and optimise costs associated with cloud services is important. The candidate should be able to identify and implement cost strategies that balance performance and cost, leveraging the flexibility of the cloud.
The cloud architect often acts as a mediator between technical teams and business stakeholders. Good communication skills are essential to translate the technical aspects of cloud into the language of business benefits, as well as to collaborate on cloud projects.
